Acupuncture and Automobile Accidents

If you have been in an automobile collision or car accident there are certain things you should know:

All your medical bills resulting from the motor vehicle collision are paid for by personal injury protection (PIP) insurance. By law, Oregon has mandated that you, and all passengers in your car, have up to $15,000 each to cover any medical bills resulting from the car accident. You have the right to see any doctor of your choice, including an acupuncturist.

Inner Gate Acupuncture is more than happy to deal with the Insurance companies so you don’t have to.

When you are in an automobile accident or car collision, the most common injury is whiplash, though back pain, general muscle pain, and stress & anxiety are also commonly reported.
The symptoms of whiplash, whether from an automobile accident, or otherwise include:

  • Neck / Shoulder pain and stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty Focusing
  • Low back pain
  • Sleeplessness
  • Irritability
At our Portland Acupuncture Clinic, we use acupuncture and Tuina massage to help you recover from any symptoms related to car accident. This two tier approach works well because the acupuncture helps to relax you, releases endorphins from the brain to block pain, and turns off the inflammation cascade that results from a trauma to the body. As a result, the body starts to “let go” of tight muscles and is able to send more oxygen rich blood to the area to promote healing. It is at this point that receiving massage proves a useful adjunct. The body is relaxed and able to support direct massage which breaks up scar tissue and adhesions. This allows the muscles to lengthen and stretch and the patient experiences increased range of motion and decreased pain.

If you need additional work beyond acupuncture, Inner Gate Acupuncture has a strong network of health care providers—Chiropractors, Licensed Massage Therapists, M.Ds—that we can refer you to. To find out more information about this you can ask Erik Isaacman, Oliver Leonetti & Casey McGuire directly or click here for Inner Gate Acupuncture's resource page.
